Elite Summer Season

Our 17u Elite team packed their bags and hit the road in July playing on the exposure circuit in front of dozens of college coaches and scouts. Staring with a solid few days of early July exposure ball in Lexington, KY at the Run 4 the Roses, which is without a doubt among the most competitive and well attended events on the summer circuit (500+ college coaches and 3,000 student-athletes this year) before taking a day off to rest and reflect before moving on to the Nike TOC Chicago 2016 at McCormick Place. Our final stop on the July Exposure Tour was the new the Nike TOC Atlanta. 2nd place in our Nike Chicago pool and 2nd place in the top 17u Pool A in Atlanta, but more importantly another month of great experiences for the players competing against national level competition. So proud of the collective growth and development of this talented group of young ladies and looking forward to following their final year of HS ball and hearing about college decisions.

IHD Black wrap-up

IHD Black finished their summer season at the USJN Summer Final (2nd in pool at 3-1despite missing some key contributors). We don't confuse activity with accomplishment by collecting medals at one day shootouts against weak competition at the HS level, we play exhausting man-to-man defense almost exclusively, and we know that our challenging tournament schedule is not easy for the girls. There are no shortcuts to successful player development and we recognize the time, effort, energy, sacrifice, and investment required. Thank you Black team players, parents, and coaches for sharing the journey with us this season

Middle School Teams on the Rise

2 Days. 12 Games. 10 Wins. 2 Championships. 2 Second Place.
After all the exposure ball in April, the HS girls took a weekend off and left the courts to our MS teams who did not disappoint. The 6/7 White and 7 Black teams took over the spotlight and represented themselves very well with each participating in two events.
We don’t judge success solely by the number of W’s or medals we collect, but rather by our ability to compete and demonstrate consistent and continuous improvement and both teams did a great job of doing exactly that. The girls played hard, played smart, and played together with no shortcuts, no zones, and no regrets.
We’re pleased to acknowledge them and their coaches for a job well done and for their continued hard work and commitment!

April Exposure Success

Collecting medals playing in weak shootouts has never been our objective at the HS level. Rather our philosophy has always been based on the belief that to be your best, you have to test yourself and compete against the best. Our HS girls did exactly that the past two weekends playing in a combined 16 NCAA Certified college exposure games. Afterwards, they were a little sore, had a few bruises, and were  wondering if they would ever get that “smell” out of their uniforms; but they met the challenge, played solid team ball, won a few, lost a few, learned some things along the way, and are better players for the experience.
Playing against the elite programs from across the Midwest including the top Nike EYBL teams from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri and other top level programs from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Illinois certainly wasn’t easy and we acknowledge that we set high standards and push our girls hard to excel, but multiple post-game text messages and DM’s from college coaches after the Elite girls showed very well with a couple of dominating Saturday performances, and the steady improvement of the Black team that pulled together to win their pool and finish 4-1 in the final weekend event validate the benefits of the girls hard work, dedication, and determination. We’re blessed to have them and are excited to continuing their development for the balance of the spring/summer season.

The Vikings went on to finish 2nd at State and feature IHD alums Bryana Hopkins and Hailey Williams.

The Home of Champions!

It’s great to see the hard work pay off for so many of our players and their HS programs. Harvest, Huntley, Burlington Central, and Crystal Lake took home Regional Championship hardware while Hampshire, St. Charles North, and St. Ed’s fell just short after advancing the title games in their respective regions. Too many names to mention them all, so we’ll just congratulate all of the IHD girls and their teammates and the HS coaching staffs for a job well done! On to the next one…

Commitment to Excellence

Nobody's perfect....but 88-0 in 6yrs is pretty darn close!

We’re exceptionally proud of PKMS Falcons/Central Rockets and IHD Class of 2016 players Sam Cruz, Becca Gerke, Shelby Holt, and Kayla Ross, for their collective commitment to excellence.

  • 34 – 0 in NCJC Middle School Conference.
  • 54- 0 in BNC High School Conference.

Also contributing to the undefeated HS record for 3 of the 4 years were Class of 2015 Rockets and IHD alums Jackie Collins and Kayla Rafferty, along with 2017 Kristina Ahlers and 2018 Julia Barnes for the past two seasons and season respectively.

The amazing accomplishment is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice of both the players and their parents who started the journey together many years ago.

Saluting the 1,000 Points Club Inductees

Congratulations to the Class of 2016 and 4-year varsity starters Emma Benoit (Hampshire), Shelby Holt (Burlington Central), Jamie Netzley (Wheaton Academy), Morgan Rosencrants (SC North), Kayla Ross (Burlington Central), and Maddie Versluys (Westminster Christian) on reaching the 1,000 points scored career milestone.  An amazing accomplishment for an amazing group of young ladies!

Hey, Hey, Huntley…Back to Back MLK Champions!

The Red Raiders are the 2016 Champions of the 3rd Annual DeKalb MLK Tournament that featured a field of 16 teams with the top 8 seeds having a combined season record of 107-26.
The defending champs entered the event as the 4th seed and they defeated top seeded and previously unbeaten 20-0 Rockford Lutheran (ranked #2 in IL 3A) in the semifinals before defeating second seeded Rock Island (ranked #6 in IL 4A) for the title. The games featured balanced scoring and excellent defensive performances by the Raiders in against two excellent teams with key contributions from several players. In the title game, Maddy Moffett and Paige Renkosik did an amazing job chasing and denying one of the best players in the country while Morgan Clausen had a monster 4th Qtr on both ends of the floor and Kayla Barreto made two clutch free throws to clinch the Championship in the closing seconds. Huntley is a well-coached team that plays with intensity from start to finish. Congrats Abbey, Kayla, Morgan, Maddy, Mallory, Missy, Paige and the rest of the Huntley squad on Back 2 Back MLK titles for the Red Raiders!

2016 AAU Season

All of the players from our 2015 Elite 17u team have either signed/committed to play at the next level or are in the final stages on making final decisions and we’re looking forward to helping the next group of girls reach their Hoop Dreams in 2016.
Preliminary tournament schedules were sent out to returning 15u to 17u HS players. This year’s schedule includes multiple NCAA certified events in April, July, and September so our players will once again be well positioned to maximize their exposure opportunities.
We will announce try-out details soon for younger girls that are interested in joining the most competitive girls AAU program in the area.
We anticipate having talented teams from 5th grade to 11th grade again this season.

2016 Midwest Invitational

Our 7th/8th team is a balanced mix of 7th and 8th graders so we were given the option to play in either the 7A/8B Division where we would likely win several games or in the 8A Gold where we would be one of the youngest teams and likely not be as “successful”.
Easy decision! The girls moved passed the previous weekend’s performance where we lacked some focus and attention to detail all day (despite winning a couple of games) after our extended Holiday break to have a great experience in the most competitive event of the Winter Travel Season that featured 32 top 8th grade teams from 5 States. We finished the weekend 2-2; a few missed free throws from 3-1, and learned some important lessons along the way about teamwork, execution, finishing, competing, intensity, and confidence. A 20pt comeback in the second half for the win in the last game on Sunday sent everyone home happy…and just a little exhausted.

IHD Players Continue to Impact Local HS Programs

Illinois Hoop Dreams was founded as an organization dedicated to providing a positive teaching environment for girls that had both the desire and talent to become great student-athletes and to raise the collective level of girls basketball in the greater Fox Valley area.

What started as a club with 2 middle school-aged teams made up primarily of players that would be attending 3 or 4 local high schools, has grown into one the premier AAU clubs in the State of Illinois with competitive teams at every level and players attending nearly 20 different high schools and dozens of grammar and middle schools.
Having just passed the half-way point in the HS season, and with a little over a month remaining before the start of the IHSA state play-offs, IHD players continue to excel at all levels with several varsity players on track to receive All-Conference and All-Area recognition at this season’s conclusion.

The passion, skill, and leadership that the players continue to demonstrate on the court has dramatically raised the overall level of play in the area and several high school programs and HS coaches are the direct beneficiaries of these efforts, with many now considered to be among the best in suburban Chicago.

So many IHD trained players are mentioned in the local newspapers on an almost daily basis, that it would be too difficult to name them all without possibly forgetting someone, so instead, we would like to commend all of the girls for their outstanding efforts so far this season, and to acknowledge their parents for continuing to support their daughter’s Hoop Dreams.

2013 Hoops for Hope Mother’s Day Saturday

IHD’s second annual Hoops for Hope Saturday will be on Mother’s Day weekend. We are asking all players (moms too!) to purchase and wear t-shirts on 5/11/13 as a show of support for the women among us that are dealing with the challenging effects of cancer. While the survival rate has increased over the years thanks to education, early detection, and other proactive activities, there is still much work to be done and funding research is the key to ultimately finding a cure.

We had 100% player participation in our inaugural event t last season and would like to continue that tradition and hope that we can count on your support. All of the proceeds from the sale of the shirts this year will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. Before her death, she joined forces with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the under-served, and unifying people for a common cause.

Since the Fund’s inception, $8 million has been raised and $2.5 million has been granted for scientific research and related programs focused on women’s cancers thanks to the generosity and continued support of donors. However, there’s still much more progress to be made in the scientific community in regards to cancer research.

Please help us support the Kay Yow Fund. T-shirts are only $15 (about the same price we all pay for those Nike Elite socks....but for a much better cause) and will be delivered to practices next week.
We’d also love to see parents participating in our Hoops for Hope/Pink Zone day!

JV Dominates at Windy City Classic
Our JV girls had a great weekend at the USJN Windy City Classic and the future is very bright for this group of 8th graders. In the first national-level exposure event for most of the players, they did not disappoint as they continue to develop while playing an aggressive, read and react style game. Inspired team defense, executing the offensive sets, and taking advantage of our team speed to capitalize on opportunities in transition were all keys to success.
The team went 3-0 in pool play and advanced to the championship bracket with convincing wins over IL Connections, KS Eclipse, and the Cincinnati Lady Tigers despite missing two of our key contributors.

The backcourt duo of Maddie Spagnola and Marlee Kyles proved to be a lethal combination for the opposition as each player was consistently dominant throughout the tournament in addition to having runs in particular games where they were absolutely spectacular. Mackie Kelleher, Morgan Clausen, and Lauren Woelffer also played key roles and made significant contributions on the defensive end.

Missing a third key player on Sunday morning, the team ultimately lost a close 2 point game in the tournament semi-finals to the IN Jewells to finish the weekend at 3-1. Although disappointed to fall just sort of their goal of playing for the championship, the girls had a great experience and are already looking forward to taking the next step at the USJN event at U of I in Urbana in May.

Great Season Opening Saturday!
All of our teams opened their 2013 spring AAU seasons with games on April 13 with very encouraging results. The 5th graders played three games and got a nice win in the first ever AAU experience for the girls, while the 6th Black, 6th White, and 7th teams each finished in second place in their respective tournaments with each compiling 2-1 records for the day.

The HS teams opened their seasons at the Lady Fire Spring Shootout for the second consecutive year and IHD had another impressive showing with the three teams combining to win 8 of 9 games. JV and Varsity 15 were both 3-0 for the day and Varsity 16 was 2-1 with their only loss coming in the final game of the night. Considering that most of the girls on the team spent Saturday morning taking the ACT test, it’s amazing that they weren’t completely exhausted much sooner in the day. A great effort by all!

Saturday MVP Awards:
5th - Elana Wells
6th Black - Sydney Gratz
6th White - Brooke Cambra
7th - Kate Majerus
JV - Maddie Spagnola, Kristina Ahlers
V15 - Emma Benoit, Sam Cruz
V16 – Tori Patterson, CeCe Rapp
